Favorite garden book in the whole wide world

I absolutely love, love love this book.
It's enormously informative without being encyclopedia-ish, beautifully photographed and so interesting.
I read every word, twice.
The author, Ken Druse, has an enthusiasm that is delightful.
He speaks of the 'Golden Mean," a mathematical design formula that is found repeatedly in nature and thus in art and architecture.
As you can see I own a 'few" books on gardening. Here are just a few.
They are all good, some being better than others.

But Planthropology surpasses them all, teaching me concepts I have never read about.
Which is really saying something, since I have gone to the public library an average of twice a week
                                                                     for many years now.

Also highly recomended is:
                                                                          Excellent!

Trash Talkin...

Storage for pots and garden lanterns

Long Island is one beautiful place to live. We are known for our beaches, wineries, lighthouses and farms.
Tourists come from hundreds, if not thousands of miles away to visit "The Hamptons".
But, what is not widely known is the great trash we have. That's right, trash!
Residents of Long Island throw out some pretty cool stuff. And I for one am one happy girl.

Does anyone know the name of the T.V. show where these two carpenter guys rescue a piece of furniture, bring it back to their work shop, transform it into something totally cool, and then sneak it back to the original owners residence, only to watch the reaction from the people as they realize its their original item? If you know this program's name, would you leave a comment please?

I like to think what I do is kinda like that show...only its not as much work and... yeah....I don't give the items back..

Now, the men in the family (husband and son) are somewhat embarrassed by this behavior (go figure)...
but the women...not so much!
My middle daughter and I will be driving somewhere together, chattin away and we will pass a pile of "stuff" curbside.

I'm driving and I'll say:  "Call out what's there".

She says something like: "Broken table, 2 chairs, scrap lumber and an ugly lamp".

We do this without missing a beat. Both my girls excel at this behavior and have found amazing "finds".

So one day, when "Baby Girl" called me from work and said she had a surprise for me, I couldn't wait.

She proudly presented me with an "Arnold Bread Cart" used to display bread in a grocery store, but discarded near the store's dumpster. What a gift! I was thrilled!

New shelving for the potting shed, or if I ever want to sell flowers "curbside", its perfect!
I just better make sure its staked down, there are people out there who look for stuff like this.

To see more of my curbside finds check out older post "A few of my favorite things"
What's the coolest thing you've ever "found" ?
