At some point, around this time of the year, my mind starts to review how the garden performed,
which plants did well and which ones had too many problems or were thuggish.
There are always pleasant surprises which made me infinitely happy and then there are plants that might have made me audibly groan, swearing to myself that I would rip them out!
( which I find incredibly hard, like editing ones closet!)
Here are my "Top Ten" for this year:
1.Agapanthus
2. Peony
3.Baptisa
4. Hosta
5. Salvia
6. Knock Out roses
7.Hydrangea
8. Lavender
9. Siberian Iris
10. Spirea
So, there ya have it. My top 10... which took me about 2 hours to select! lol.
I wanted to name most of my beloved plants.
But only these 10 really require very little maintenance, hold their own in less than perfect conditions and put on a great show!
Both the lavender and Baptisa are much more vibrant than my poor photography shows.
What were some of your favorites? I'd love to know!
Gorgeous shots - what a fantastic garden you have, Karen! My personal favorite plants are daylilies, purple coneflowers, and lupine. Hope you had a very nice Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI'm practically drooling over that hosta and hydrangea. Just beautiful. Hostas absolutely fried and hydrangeas were very unhappy in our brutal summer. I'll have to wait for a wetter year before they will be anything close to yours. Not sure if that will ever come. May have to give up on them here, and I will just have to appreciate yours from afar.
ReplyDeleteOh, what lovely pictures! Your plants look so happy!!! Your peonies are beautiful. And why, oh, why have I shied away from growing spirea all these years? I've never seen any as gorgeous as yours! My favorites? hmmm.... roses, salvia, canna, dianthus, irises (love the foliage as well as the flower), hydrangea, crossvine, camellia, oh, I love them all!
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with your choices. You've got some real beauties and make me wish for spring.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
Love Elzie
Hi Beth,
ReplyDeleteoh..I have just planted lupines! I sure hope they come back for me, they are pretty!
Thanks Toni! It was a hard summer for so many! I have to admit the Hostas I have in full shade were happier!
Hey Holleygarden
That Spirea is fairly new for this garden, I had it in my yard growing up, so it has sentimental value besides being one incredibly easy plant to care for!
Hi Grace,
Thanks, I'm always visiting YOUR garden and seeing beauties!
Hi Elzie,
Thank you,and thanks for visiting!
